Lt. Cdr. Matryx Peterson | MED BOT 30-Aug-24 07:18 PM
Matryx rushed in, carrying his case of emergency tools where he needed to, and quickly scanned the sickbay, ensuring it was in peak condition to receive any patients as soon as they boarded onto the ship. The memory of having to turn a holodeck into a makeshift sickbay was coming back to him - but this seemed, at least, for now, far more manageable. With a breath, Matryx set down his tools and began a slightly more in-depth inspection of the space.

Iviaan was double and triple-checking inventory as well. No doubt they'd likely end up with a few injured folk from the storm, so it was good to be prepared. One hand flew across a holographic keyboard, the text to speech reading out a quick "Hello." to the ACMO as he flew by.

Matryx looked over his shoulder, noticing the lieutenant was already there, not having noticed them before. "Oh! Sorry, lieutenant, I didn't mean to miss you there. Hello, thanks for reporting here so quickly. How's the area looking where you've checked? All systems and biobeds seem to be in good working order on my end."

Ens. Aria | MED BOT 30-Aug-24 07:23 PM
The term ‘worried sick’ implies the capability to be sick, of which Aria did not have. But oh, she could worry. The android had a small internal timer clicking away, waiting to drop her into low battery. This was why she was posted at 777, to prevent something like this happening during an away mission. Eight hours. She’d better make it count, “Are we currently aware of our destination?”

Ts'Oclas arrived in the medbay. Padd in hand, he'd note down the inventory, remembering places and learning the layout of the new sickbay, so if he was needed he could help to the best of his ability. But he stood back, out of the way of the superior officers and actual doctors.

Matryx was relieved to have more than a few hands helping him while he commanded the sickbay. This likely would be rather difficult if it were all by his lonesome. "Ah! Ensigns Aria and Jork'on, just in time, welcome. Yes, it was said we're heading to Helios III." (edited)
Avatar
Ens. Aria | MED BOT 30-Aug-24 07:31 PM
The android tilted her head. She had never seen Helios III, and come to think of it, she doesn’t think she’d heard of it. Likely in passing at the academy, but she couldn’t quite recall, “In the meantime, are we to treat this as an active emergency?”
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Matryx Peterson | MED BOT 30-Aug-24 07:37 PM
Matryx didn't even have to mention it and Aria had already called the stakes of this mission. "Very good, Ensign! That was a little test. Everyone, assume active emergency protocol, double time. Be ready to treat patients at a moment's notice once we arrive at Helios III and they begin the evacuation. You've got this. Remain calm, and we'll all get through this together. You have your orders - let's move!" As Matryx stepped about face, and approached the main sickbay console for one last inspection of that.
Avatar
Lt. Iviaan Ch'rhytross | MED BOT 30-Aug-24 08:10 PM
A test?.. Iviaan's antennae stood straight up as he concluded his checks, reporting back that, yes, everything was indeed functional. Emergency protocol it was. Preparing to receive patients as soon as they took off... 'Steady your nerves, Ian. You need your hands still as they can be.'

er. Arn. Ev'kor tr'Khellian | MED BOT 30-Aug-24 08:13 PM
Ev'kor entered the sickbay, having the availability to respond to the call for aid. He had... approximately thirty years of experience with emergency medicine, give or take a few years, and this seemed like the time to put it to use. "Afternoon, everyone," he greeted jovially, regardless of whatever time it actually was, taking the time to check over his kit as he waited for patients to start pouring in.

Lt. Cdr. Matryx Peterson | MED BOT 30-Aug-24 08:17 PM
Noticing the officer joining in, Matryx gave him a smile. "Come on in, erei'arrain, you're just in time. Assume active emergency protocol, double time. We're getting this place set up and ready so we can intake and treat patients once we get to Helios III."

Lt. JG. Sodor | CMD BOT 30-Aug-24 08:35 PM
Guess who? No, not Beverly Crusher. It's Sodor! With a holocamera! Having heard the call for action, the holodocumenter had immediately headed for the Eventide, and considering that this was an evacuation mission, what better to document than the fine work of Starfleet's Medical division? Having subtly entered sickbay, the Ferengi had begun their task of taking a few pictures here and there of what everyone was up to, showing off as much pre-action-action as possible.
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Matryx Peterson | MED BOT 30-Aug-24 08:37 PM
While he wasn't expecting the holodocumentor to be on this particular mission, Matryx didn't mind at all. "Come on in, lieutenant, thanks for stopping by," Matryx said. "If there's anything you need us to do for certain documentations within reason and circumstance, let us know, we'll be happy to help."

With a snicker, Matryx replied. "Oh, nonononono, it's a saying that sometimes some of the younger officers use! Trying to be hip and with the times, you know." Before he changed subjects. "If you don't want to be, you can opt out of being documented." Iviaan wasn't too fond of cameras. However, right now, he was fine...and giving Peterson a strange look, as best he could with a visor. "I've never heard that before, sir."

Matryx shrugged. "Sometimes I hear a bit of that slang and I'm like, 'huh, maybe I should use this to be cooler with the kids, huh?' And so I've started to adopt some of the language to the detriment of some of them calling me quote on quote 'cringe.'"

"I'll try to accommodate your requests but I can't guarantee you not ending up in the background of a shot or two, especially if things get chaotic and you're in the middle of something that I have a duty to document. If you want to give the Press Liaison Office your names after this mission we can make a note to exclude you from the final published holophotos or blur your faces if we can't. The Federation does have privacy laws, after all." The Ferengi responded lightly. They totally got why people wouldn't want to be photoed, but they also had to do their job. That's what going through it all in post is for, though!

"I am fine with being photographed or holoscanned? My only concern is patient privacy. Once we get patients in here all documentation will need to stop. We will provide detailed reports and if needed, there's always security cam footage," Kavish spoke out about being documented. He didn't mind people recording him, he looked great that day so he wasn't afraid of looking bad. He assumed a press liaison would understand patient confidentiality so any identifying information or faces of patients could be censored in editing. "And hello everyone, jolan tru, I'm Kavish," Kavish waved his hands and smiled! He was a happy dude, very Klingon, very lorg, and friendly!

Ah, right patient privacy. Something they had never given nor been afforded back in the Dominion. They knew of the way the Federation did it, of course, but Kavish made a good point about the holodocumenting being a breach of patient privacy - a nuance they wouldn't have thought of. "You're right... It wouldn't be good to film my patients. Hello, Kavish, I'm Vio." They gave their best smile; it was slightly uncanny, and didn't meet their eyes. (edited)

Twelve remained in sickbay, a aid kit secured to her side as she moved about the place and worked through check ups on what had been prepared for the arrival of any patients transported in. This was a crisis situation after all. If a double check spotted something now and could be solved easily now then that was good.

And so it begins. Joe and the Science Ensign were beamed in here alongside a junior medic who drafted a brief in the shuttlebay. "This is Joe, Human age 76 - was in the subway tunnels when a collapse hit him in the lower back, he's now lost all feeling in his legs."
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Vio 3-V | MED BOT 02-Sep-24 12:27 AM
"Legs? Could be spine damage. We can scan him to confirm. Hold on." And so they had the biobed (that he was presumably beamed in upon) do just that.

"Given the report of loss of feeling, a cervical collar should be applied anyway." Twelve chimed in then as she looked them over and conducted a visual assessment for any visible injuries. "Given loss of feeling suggests a spinal injury should be suspected, prior to confirmation, which merits it." She moved to go and prepare the Cervical collar.

Matryx was already cueing up the pain relief and inflammatory hypos for the injury site, allowing his team to take the lead on this. He of course would step in if they needed help, but this was a chance to empower his team and let them lead. "Very good, team, good first steps," Matryx said. "Lieutenant, I cooked up the painkiller hypo while you were speaking." As he administered the hypospray into Joe. "There you go, that should help you a little bit."

Well, that seemed kind of easy. Joe just went to sleep. Thankfully Joe was still breathing, but the fact of him falling asleep made this simpler, since Matryx didn't want to worry the man any further. "Very good, erei'arrain-- heh, you read my mind, commander. Yes, let's proceed with the operation. I've done surgery in my past but not neurosurgery. I don't think I'm best suited for that specific part of the operation. I'm guessing by your question, Commander 3-V that you don't have that experience either. Twelve finished the application of the cervical collar and looked to Ev'kor and then to the Lieutenant Commander who'd made that suggestion. Given the patient was awake at the time, she elected to not respond. Instead she stepped away once it was applied and snapped open her own tricorder and conducted some scans of her own. "We are not sufficiently experienced in Neuro surgery to conduct the required surgery, a specialist neuro surgeon is required for this injury at this present time."

They also checked the patient's heart readings because it was Kavish after all! With the beam stabilized to the point of definitely not going anywhere, Iviaan could focus on disinfecting the outer tissue and controlling the rest of the bleeding. "Thank you. "Yes, of course," Kavish said as he hooked up the bag of blood into one of the IV's that also scanned it to ensure it would be compatible with the patient. It was the Andorian equivalent to O-negative so he didn't expect there to be any conflicts. He did double check with the patient's readings to ensure they didn't have any special blood type, Kavish didn't know much about blood types of species besides Klingons and Romulans, but it all looked good! He put a blood infusor onto the patient's wrist, which looked like a round device that was connected to the blood bag. This used beaming technology to beam the blood directly into the veins, eliminating the chances of infection that would come with needles or anything like that! Also, considering this patient was bleeding out, it was probably best not to stick them with any other sharp objects. "Transfusion started, I can keep an eye on the blood pressure."

"Three...two...one..." Up! With only a bit of a heave, the beam was removed, leaving the surgeon free to operate on any impacted internal nonsense off-screen thanks to the power of incredible narration. Iviaan didn't have too much to say in the moment, but flashed the medical officers in the room a sheepish but grateful smile, snaggletooth poking out just a little. Now to see who else would need his attention..

TW: Blood The beam was very quickly removed, the andorian's clothes were quickly stained by blood gushing out and he was almost immediately mobbed by surgeons and doctors who whisked him off to a side room. Not long after, a kid - no more than 17 - was aided in by an Ops officer. "He's hypothermic, he's got a space blanket around him but his legs gave way in the shuttle bay."

"Warm intravenous fluids and a humidified oxygen mask," Vio replied. "I believe that's the treatment, but feel free to correct me."

Seeing the young kid brought in by the Ops officer, Matryx sprung into action. "That's a good start, commander, let's prepare everything we need just in case those don't cut it. Team, let's prepare a dry biobed, if we have any extra blankets we'll need them now. Let's prep the warm IV fluids as well as a humidified oxygen mask. Make sure the warmth goes to their extremities first. I'll replicate some warm water for our patient here." As Matryx rushed over to the replicator, and replicated some warm water. (edited)

“Affirmative,” The nurse quickly moved about the sickbay. It was the fastest some of the doctors had seen her move since the parasitic infection, although that didn’t have any injuries…she looked down at her gloves for a moment to see how badly they were stained. Trading them out for a new pair, she prepped the IV fluid and a biobed.

Matryx grabbed the glass of water and set it aside before he scourged through the nearby compartments for any blankets or other materials. Matryx searched through a few more compartments, finding two extra blankets that he could use to warm the patient up. With the blankets in one hand and the water in the other, Matryx carefully rushed the materials over and set them down. First Matryx covered the patient's extremeties to warm them up. He saved the second blanket for afterwards. "Alright Ensign Aria, please begin the IV transfusion process. I'll monitor the patient's vitals." (edited)

“Affirmative,” Aria was very good with IVs. That was like one of the things she was the best at! Her lights, though, were a bit less brighter than they usually were. Nothing too worrying, but…noticeable. Five hours. She was still doing pretty well, all things considered…

Iviaan gave the patient a quick scan over, checking if there were any other injuries that needed to be treated. Was it the hypothermia that made his legs give out, or something else?

Yes, it was the hypothermia. The constant shivering had weakened the muscle - aside from that the slow heating was working, and the kid's vitals were beginning to stabilise.

Got it. He'd step back and prepare to help anyone else that came through, then.

Twelve had continued to work during the course of this, helping other patients as the hyperthermia case was addressed. While she worked, being a Intensive care doctor, she flagged any case that'd need intensive care's attention post initial treatment on her PADD for the attention of other doctors aboard.
